Hello to all. I'm 61 years old and have not ridden in 15 to 20 years. My last road bike was a Fuji S10s road racer (1975ish). I've had several mountain bikes but after her first ride, my wife decided to never get on a bike again. She wanted something with one speed, coaster brakes, big handlebars and a wide seat. I have exercised on and off most of my life. I recently found out that I have a huge calcium problem in my heart and my cardiologist wanted me to do all of the cardio that I can. In addition to weight lifting I was running 20 plus miles a week on an elyptical machine, BORING!

I should never watch the Tour De France. Every year I get the bike itch. I entered the Trek WOW contest everyday and won twice. Not the bikes mind you but 2 Trek water bottles. I think Trek does that on purpose so you have to go to a dealer and daydream. So, after picking up my new water bottles and window shopping, I decided it was time for a new bike. WOW, STICKER SHOCK. Prices seemed to have gone ballistic in the last 20 plus years like everything else. I told my wife about the great sale price on a new 2007 Trek 2100 and she asked the dreaded question, "how much?". As I slumped into my chair, head between my legs, I told her. Her reaction was somewhere between really upset and nuclear. She told me to offer them half what they were asking, yeah right! Well, I bought the bike but did not tell her about the extras like pedals, shoes, helmut, tools, pump, good bike shorts, etc. etc. etc., just about another $700.00 plus. Today my new Kinetic trainer arrives so I can keep going in bad weather. Remember, I'm buying all this stuff for health reasons. There must be balance. Did I hear that I may be worth more dead than alive?

In typical male fashion, I rode too much, too far, too soon. I'm chaffed beyond belief, and my pain threshold. I've not been on the bike in over 2 weeks and using evey cream known to mankind. Even when I've had a bad sunburn I've never peeled this much and it keeps on peeling. Have a great day!

Same here. Seems mine is heredity and has been building up for ~30 years. I'm 64 and it turns out that all the cycling I've done during the past several years didn't help this problem at all. But I'm sure having fun.

Great. You'll really enjoy it. Just take it slow until you build up your legs and lungs.

Hmmm, let's see. You rode too many miles and wore underwear under your bike shorts. Right?
Did you see the padding in the cycling shorts? Did you notice the stitching pattern so there's no seam under the crotch area. It's that way for a purpose. NEVER, EVER wear underwear under cycling shorts!!!
If you want to wear street shorts, wear padded cycling underwear under the shorts.
