Hello from KC,MO

I haven't ridden in about 30 years (had several really bad car and motorcycle accidents), but decided I wanted to give it another shot. So, I bought an Electra Rat Rod from Midwest Cyclery a few weeks ago. The last bike I had owned was a circa 1970 yellow Schwinn Stingray. The Electra has been a blast to ride around Westport and the Plaza, and I'm definitely hooked on cycling now. Already bought a second bike - stretch cruiser, and I'm looking for a couple more specific cruisers, a good mountain bike, and a beater for the winter.

This looks like THE forum for all things bike related, so I look forward to browsing through the posts to learn more about cycling.

Hi KCCW...I'm new to this forum as well, and love it. Like you, I ride an Electra Townie. I really like it, and when I loose the weight that I need to I am going to look into a touring or road bike. Being in college, I can't just go out and buy a new bike when I want, as I just got my Townie within the last year. Is there a trick to climbing hills on that, because even when I drop to a low gear, I still have a heck of a time going up? Happy riding, and good luck!

Welcome to bike forums, from another Kansas City bicyclist. Midwest Bicyclery is my favorite shop as well. I suppose that you know that they are moving to 39th and Main. They have had some great bargains on bikes and supplies because they won't have to carry so much over to the new place.

for the first couple weeks i rode, i had to get off the bike and walk it up steep hills. even now, i sometimes walk it up the steepest hills, or just stop for a minute and take a break. i have noticed that the hills are easier to ride up than before as i've gotten into better shape. so, i guess just keep at it and it'll get easier.

yep, i've been eying that Kona Hot Rod in the window. i think its a 2005-2006 model, so i'm sure they are eager to cut a deal on it.

I have been eyeing a Fugi road bike, that had started out priced at about $900, but now is marked down to about $700.

Right now, I cannot afford even seven hundred, but I keep riding my Fugi hybrid that I bought at Midwest back in 2004. They have great service on repairs.

BTW, have you ever rode with the Critical Mass Rides that meet at SunFresh once a month on the last Friday of the month?
