Greetings From San Diego!!
I'm in the Marine Corps, and my wife is former Navy. Due to a medical condition, cycling is the only outdoor activity that we can do together that doesn't cause her pain.
We've only been riding a few weeks on second hand bikes (I ride a 2005 Scattante CF Team with a full ultegra setup with a triple, and my wife rides a 2008 Specialized Ruby Elite with a 105 groupo and a compact) but we've definitely 'caught the bug' so to speak. (I'm already specing out a Kestrel SL900 frameset with a SRAM red setup) In fact I have my first major ride scheduled next month (a 55 mile juant through the mountains) and my wife and I have made it a point to try to get at least 100 miles a week logged on our bikes.
So far, it's been a fairly positive experience, aside from the expected falls that come with the first time uses of clipless pedals. A few scrapes and bruises aside, we've enjoyed every second of it.
So if you're out on the Imperial Strand, maybe we'll see you out there!

I know there are a few former Marines floating around here, including myself.
