I don't know what that is. Whatever it is, if it doesn't pertain to cycling specifically, it belongs in another "forum catagory'.. "foo" or another I guess

Welcome and good luck in your quest for knowlege.

Wikipedia is a fair source at best, and will supply a ton of links at the bottom of the page.

The 5000 year old Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012.
On that date all motorized vehicles with self-destruct and everyone will have to ride bikes or walk.

What bike(s) do you ride?

BTW: I'd really like to get a Mayan calendar tattoo on my right thigh but my wife says I have enough tattoos.

When I'm printing out a calender or am doing some long range planning I usually stop at some date in time that I figure is long enough. It does not mean that I think everything will come to an end then, it just means that is all the farther I went at that session. I suspect the Mayans were the same way and 2012 is just when they got tired of writing.

But more important is the fact that after a 3 hour discussion you then wound up here on a bicycling site. The significance of that could easily consume another 3 hour discussion. I think you need to get a bicycle and ride it at least 3 times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes each ride, and then at least once a month you need to go on a 3 hour ride. You need to do this until either the dawn of 2012 or until the end of 2012, by the time that time arrives you will know how long to ride. Also, before the end of that time I suspect you will understand and have the answer to your quest.

Pedal on, for time keeps rolling on, keep up as best you can. Pedal on.

dont live your life worrying about it, keep your family and loved ones close and make sure they know you love them. Because at the end of the day, if any thing bad happened, Love is the only thing that would matter.

Only love and conquer hate. Love life, live everyday breathing the light of life.

Cliff notes version:
In 2012 the calender cycle simply starts over. The world or humanity will not end, much like Y2K. Turn the page, carry on.

Note the word/term "cycle". 8-)

Well that just sucks. I've already stopped my newspaper, canceled my cable service and a bunch of other stuff. So then, you're saying there will be no space ship?

Nope, you're actually ahead of the curve. Print newspapers are being replaced by online info streams, cable is being replaced by wifi and other wireless services. You're already living in the future, go for a bicycle ride, enoy the day. The rest of us will be along in three years or so.
Side note re: spaceships:
I've currently got an oldish kid's bike in the car called a Planetary Racer, even has a spaceman dude on it. Ahead of it's time, maybe from 1999 give or take several years.

Well done, John!
You've come to the right place!
In 2012, many predict that governments globally will pass mandatory helmet laws.
Bike lanes will be constructed in door zones on every urban street.
A major war will erupt over a disagreement on the rationale for shaving legs.

It sounds awful, but there will be a few bright points.
Fixie riders will begin unconverting their rides because their knees hurt.
Roadies will abandon their elitist attitudes and start waving again.

I hope this helped.

What will happen in 2012?

Mark Cavendish will win the Olympic Road Race.

Next question?

The Clydesdales will have a field day if Händel (and his sources) were right:

Every valley shall be exalted and ev'ry montain and hill made low...

I was a roadie for over twenty years, then about fifteen years ago I moved to trails/mtb and noticed the difference immediately. Mtbers are way cooler. Sorry gang.

I just got back from 2012 and it is still the same, except that McDonald's is now a health spa and McCauley Caulkin is the President.

But there's a movie about a 2012 apocalypse now, so it's totally happening.

Disasters can be just as fun as you want to make them...
On the morning of the big earthquake in '94, my wife and I rode our bicycles on the Santa Monica Freeway.

Your knees are supposed to hurt. Congress will have codified this into the 2011 "Let's torture cyclists, you know they deserve it" Act. Talk of waterboarding will be replaced mandatory electric shocks in seats and automatic rush hour sluggishness mode.

George Orwell is riding a NEXT along the road to nowhere in Hell, you know.

Give me an F! Give me an O!

Finish that, I'm lazy...

Same thing as all of the Y2K stuff.

Also there were scriptures that were destroyed when the Spanish went in.
