Hi from CA
Hello all, I'm Scott. I'm an EMT in CA and just getting into cycling. I just recently bought what I think is a 1989 Schwinn Le Tour (the dating codes are a little confusing), and I already love it. I also have a GT timberline that I used to commute to college and back, but that one needs a little TLC. I was going to take it in to get it all tuned up but since I want to learn how to do all of my own maintenance I figured I would just start with that one. Anyways, looking forward to a new hobby and learning some new stuff. Take care.

Thanks for the welcome. I do have a question and I'm not really sure where to put it.
The front tire on my bike says 700 x 25c and the rear says 700 x 23c. Is this a problem? Are they different sizes at all? I have 100% no idea how to measure tire size on bicycles. Any help or direction to where I can find the answer would be helpful.
Also, I'll post some pictures of my schwinn once i get my camera all charge up!

The tires and bike should be OK.
I have a 700 x 28 on the front and a 700 x 35 on the rear of a touring bike.
You have to measure the tires to find The real size.
They can be different as to how they fit on the rim.

I figured that either the same size on both or a slightly bigger tire in the back would be okay. I guess as long as it doesn't feel weird to ride it should be fine. I measured the diameter on each including the tire and got 26 on both so i think its okay. TY for the quick response.

Your rear tire will wear out faster and you will also get more flats on the rear.
You might want to take the time to practice flat repair at home.
It is much easier at home then waiting until it happens on the road somewhere.
I had 28 flats last year.

28? Yikes. I only have a small tube repair kit and a frame pump. Is there a list on this forum of any essential gear that new riders should consider getting?
