Hi everyone

I've been following postings in this site for a while, so I thought it was time I joined up.

I am a 52 year old novice - I've ridden a mb for the last 10 - 12 years to and from work and for some exercise when I got the urge.

I used to jog (very slowly) 4 or 5 times a week, but am getting lots of knee pain. My doc told me that I should be in the pool or on a bike, and that's it! As I can swim just far enough to get myself into trouble, riding is now the go for me.

I looked around and have bought a road bike - 9 speed 105's - 3 long rides with two punctures, so they ended up being shorter than I'd planned. Wahoo!! Only had about 6 flats in 10 years o the mb!! I now have spares with me.

Already having troubles with hills - got a 12-23 cassette - I'm thinking of going for a SRAM 12-26. What do you guys think - will I notice a difference - is it worth the hassle and cost, or should I work more on my fitness?

Welcome Jim to Bike Forums.
With bad knees I would recommend a 12-30 cassette.
A 12-34 cassette would require a longer rear dérailleur.
