1940 Western Flyer in Norfolk VA
Greetings! Bob Stein from Norfolk VA here. I usually mess with 4-wheeled antiques, but was given the boyhood bicycle of an old friend who died last year. It is a complete and solid 1940 Western Flyer Luxury Liner skip-tooth in need of total restoration. The bike has the tank and rear rack, with drop-down stand and battery-powered light. All of plating is gone, and the paint is so dirty and worn you can barely make out the original green/cream colors. I am considering buying a new Huffy/Schwinn cruiser just to pick up the incidental parts that might be the same - bottom bracket, tires, handlebars/headset, pedals. I would appreciate leads/suggestions on correct-looking parts - I want to restore it as closely as possible, but am not going to spend $800 to restore a $200 bike. I have a photo of my freind on the bike when he got it - 11 years old.
