first road bike

looking for my first road bike. I'm not sure if I should go new or used. I have a bubdget around $700, it's a little flexible. Looking for suggestions on some websites for bikes or local shops, in Northern, NJ

Welcome to BF.
Some to look at.

Most important to get one that fits you.
Some bike shops will fit you to a bike.

Welcome to bikeforums. You'll find some good info on here that helps to hold you over until your next ride. Here's another website that has some decent deals, but some folks say they take away from local bike shops business. Also ordering a bike means no follow up help on tune-ups, etc. When I started riding, I wanted a race road bike and used may have allowed me to get more bang for my buck.

I'm sure folks would be happy to discuss this dilemma with you on one of the forum catagories. Welcome.

update

I bought a Trek 2009 1.2 from my LBS. The shifting seems to be a little tricky with this bike, shimano sora components. I realize they are entry level, but I did expect a little more. Otherwise, enjoying the bike very much. Don't have gear for the cold weather, so anything below 40 derails my ride. Keeping it on on trainer indoors.
