Started riding and lost my GallBladder

Growing up in the 70s I rode my Schwinn 10 speed everywhere and never had an ounce of fat and I could eat anything I wanted.
Quit riding when I turned 18 and put on weight ever since. Blew out my left knee so I cannot walk at the age of 45. Still wanted to be mobile so I started to ride again. Purchase Specialized Rockhopper for trail and Allez Double for road.
Went from 240lbs to 180lbs over a 6-8 month period. Found out that you could loose your gallbladder if you loose that fat (after the fact.) The bright side is I lost another pound or so due to the surgery.
Age 46, my longest ride straight is 65 miles. I hope to do a 100 mile trip before the end of 2010. I dont use my Mountain bike except when family goes hiking. Eventually I will need to get this knee replaced but thanks to my bikes I am putting it off until I turn 80 ;-)

Forth Worth TX. Great place to ride!

Love the gallows humor. I'm a TC survivor (like Armstrong, though my case wasn't so dire, and I'm not QUITE so strong a rider); I joked that thanks to the surgery, at least my cycling shorts don't fit so snugly anymore.

I never knew there was a downside to weight loss.

Hope the gall bladder wasn't to big a price to pay.

Good riding.

Actually it turns out that the gallbladder is similar to the appendix in that it is really not needed. It does provide a function of storing and releasing extra bile for the digestive system but I have not noticed the difference except I do not get indigestion as much anymore... It was interesting though, it is like nobody talks about weight loss causing your gallbladder to go bad. When I was rushed to the emergency room (thinking I was having a heart attack) they diagnosed it fast and then immediately asked me if I had lost any weight recently. Then just before the surgery two days later, one of the nurses asked me the same question and went on to tell me they see that a lot after someone looses a lot of weight.

Welcome to Bike Forums.
What gearing do you have on your road bike?

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=138979Road bike is a Specialized Allez Sport Compact Double (stock.) I added a Garmin 705 so I can track my performance. I do not know enough to change anything yet. Some day when I weigh in around 150lbs I will get a CF bike, but until then this gets me through scenic routes and workouts just fine.
I purchased it and had it fitted at Bicycles Inc. here in Hurst TX.
I seem to have a problem with staying back in the seat. I always find myself pushing myself back in the seat. So any hints about fixing that would be good.
Right now I really like my Specialized, my first bike apon re-entering the sport was a Trek but I was so impressed with my Specialized Rockhopper that I switch to Specialized on the Road bike as well.
