Hi from San Francisco
Hello. I'm new to the forum...
I've been biking for transportation and recreation since I moved to SF almost 10 years ago. I even did the SF-LA AIDS Ride in 1999 & 2000 (565 miles on a mt bike both times!). Unfortunately, nine months ago my company moved further away and it isn't as convenient to ride to work anymore, which bummed me out. My cycling nearly stopped.
To kick start it, my husband and I signed up for the NYC Century Bike Tour this September 12. He's never been to NYC and, while I grew up nearby in CT, I never got to know the City. So, now I have a reason (excuse?) to go on long rides every weekend! Anyway, we're getting excited about our trip and I'm enjoying being on the bike more often.
I bought a Trek 520 touring bike and have been using that for long rides. I hope to plan some touring trips in the next few years, too. It sounds like a great way to travel.
ciao, k.

I worked in SF for two years during the dotbomb era in the financial district. I never understood how some of those bike messengers didn't have brakes on their road bikes.
