New cyclist in Tallahassee

I just bought a Trek 6500D and I ride the trails in and around Southwood. I have a number of friends who are mountain bikers. I want to get to a level so that I could not trail too far behind them.

I am also interested in getting a cyclocross bike for light trails and, maybe, commuting. I have a pretty stiff neck so I want the most upright geometry and stem for a 56cm frame. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. - Psalm 103:8

I am a cyclist. I am not the fastest or the fittest. But I will get to where I'm going with a smile on my face.
