Hello From California
Greetings.
I was doing some web-surfing and came across this site while searching for mountain bike forums. Looked interesting and informative, so I thought I would register.
Here is a little bit about me:
I am 45 years old. Obviously I am interested in cycling. I have ridden bikes since I was a kid. In November of 1980 I started racing BMX. I raced until 1986 when BMX started drying up in Bakersfield, my home town. I purchased a very inexpensive mountain bike and started to ride that.
I rode quite a bit up until I got married in '91. After that, I kind of drifted away from riding in any form.
Last fall the bug bit again. I started riding a Diamondback Traverse I got from my brother-in-law. It really isn't my size, so I got an old Gary Fisher Mamba from my brother (great relatives I have don't I?)
The Mamba needs some work, hence my search on the web for places that can offer up advice and/or suggestions. I really enjoy doing my own work when possible, and am pretty mechanically inclined, so I am not afraid to jump in and tackle whatever problems arise.
Anyway, I better knock off here; I can get long winded if I don't keep myself in check.
I look forward to becoming involved in the forums here, and hope I can offer help when I can.
My current line-up:
'93 Diamondback Traverse in really good shape
'96 Gary Fisher Mamba on its way to getting in really good shape
'81 SE Racing Quadangle recently restored (my original BMX racing bike)

Hello. I'm also from Bakersfield! I didn't expect to see anyone else from here when I clicked on the California thread.
