Hello from Greene county Ohio

Hello all, new rider here. I have not ridden in 20 years, got back into it because I was recently diagnosed with diabetes and the doc told me to start exercising. I had no interest in walking becaus I am on my feet all day and we have some very nice bike paths very close to my house. I checked out the big box stores and found nothing that fit me ( I am 6'5" and weigh 270) so I started shopping around at the local bike shops. Wow is all I can say, was in serious sticker shock to say the least. My budget was smaller than most bikes in any of them. I did find one that I liked and was just a tad over budget so I rode it and a few others ( some cheaper and some more expensive) and decided on the GT Nomad Sport comfort bike. I ride every morning before work, so far I have worked up to 10 miles and averaging 12.8 mph. The body is in pretty poor shape for only being 40 so it takes a few hours to recover after my rides. The family likes to ride along when they can, I have a trailer to pull the 2 youngest and the love it. I pulled them Saturday fora 10 mile ride. Sorry for being long winded, kinda got chatty this is something I am excited about. That's a good thing though because I have had no intrest in exercising my whole life. This is a great site loaded with information. I am glad I found it. Hope to see some of you on the path

Welcome GT to Bike Forums.
Ride slow for a long while.
It takes many miles for your legs and the rest of your body to get in shape for faster riding.

I starting road riding after being ill for four years. (65 y/o then)
Have fun ride slow.

You will get stronger the more you ride.
Rest when you need it.
