Riding for the Sheer Pleasure of It
 

Hi, my wife and I are rediscovering road riding after a few years of other pursuits. We have new bikes (me: Specialized Roubaix Pro, and her: Trek 5200), and are converting our old Trek aluminum road bikes for railtrail use. Both carbon bikes are fantastic. I've sworn off bike computers to ride for the joy of how it feels.

We live in southeastern Wisconsin, where the riding is great when the roads aren't icy, and just completed a week of gorgeous rides in the western part of the state.

Any advice on outfitting our old Trek 1200 and 1100 for smooth trails is welcome. The frames limit tire width, but maybe 700C/30 Ritchey SpeedMax tires would fit. Also, Salsa MotoAce BellLap handlebars sound like a good idea. The shift and brake controls are an open question.

I live in south-central Wisconsin and it's the best riding anywhere. I love the quite, country farm roads with no traffic and the rolling hills.

Welcome to the forums. The wifey and I have done Wisconsin's ride along the Wisconsin river on our tandem a couple of times. Have you been on thay ride? It's a pretty good week on wheels!

I have to agree with you. We spent three days riding the backroads between Spring Green and Dodgeville, and two days in the Merrimac/Sauk City area. On top of that, the railtrails are terrific.

No, we haven't done the river ride. Sounds like a good time. Besides our solo bikes, we have a Santana tandem, although it's had minimal use this year.
