Hello from Louisville
Hello there! I'm a recently retired psychology professor, 64 years old, happily married, with a daughter, son-in-law, and two great grandkids. I rode a hybred for about ten years, after running for about fifteen years (my hips and knees quit). Bought my road bike a bit over a year ago and am loving riding it. Only up to 45 miles a week, longest just under 25, but have lost 17 pounds and seem to be getting stronger. Best wishes to all of you.

Welcome John!
17 pounds huh? Thats awesome! Im assuming Louisville, KY? Im in Louisville and ride mostly in Iroquois park and Otter Creek park, mostly mountain biking and have done a few tours the longest was 200 miles. Great weather right now for cycling, keep pushin those pedals! |
Congrats on the weight loss, John. I have lost a similar amount this year, and hoping to shave at least another 20 - 30 pounds over the next year or so. Unlike you, I have only recently (last four years) returned to being more physically active. My main concern is avoiding injury by not over doing it. At the same time, I want to go touring for at least a week or two at a time. One book I found at my library that has been useful is "Cycling Past 50" by Joe Friel, copyright 1998. Very informative. Best of luck to you. Leonard in Ottawa.

I've got the book, but not sure I want to get that much into training. Right now just trying to get another mile or two each week.
