Hey all!
New cyclist here, just getting into the sport and joining the forums for advice and lunacy. I've been riding for about 5 months. I an a road rider and, hopefully, a commuter come the fall. I've had the cycling bug since I was little, but only this year decided to get myself a proper road bike and I haven't looked back since.
Cheers!

Hi New cyclist,
That is a real serious goal to commuter in the cold.
But you can do it.
Stay in touch.

Welcome!!
What part of western MA are you in? I'm just east of Springfield, but do a lot of my riding to the north (through Belchertown, Granby, Amherst, etc.) and to the south (through Monson, East Longmeadow, and down into CT).

Hey! I'm near Amherst, actually! I'm usually roaming north towards Greenfield on the longer rides, or over the river and up through Hatfield, Williamburg, etc. Nice to meet another W. Mass rider!

Thanks! I am actually looking forward to the cooler temps; I do poorly in hot weather. But I don't think I'll be riding much in January, if that was what you were thinking

There's a century coming up that's in the same area, too: 2010 COVAC. I rode it last year, and it was a nice course up to Brattleboro, VT and back. I'm planning to ride it again this year, but I'm waiting until it's a little closer to register, so I can check the weather forcast. I'll do my annual cancer fundraiser regardless of weather, but when the ride is mostly for fun, I'll pass on a downpour.

A new bagel place in South Deerfield!? I'll have to find it.
I've been thinking about signing up for the COVAC. I've heard good things about it.
