Hello from Louisiana

Hey bike-peeps,

My name is Alex, I'm 24 and I have been cycling for 2-3 years now. I started as a means to lose weight and have successfully lost 80lbs. I'm nowhere near my fitness goals, but I love the sport and hobby and see no signs of slowing down. I bought a Specialized Crosstrail in 2008 and rode the MS Bike tour in 2009. It was fun, but a little slow and uncomfortable... riding for 7 hours.. Anyways, I'm here to learn about road bikes (I plan on buying a actual road bike in the next few months) and would like to read up on weight loss tips for cyclists. I started at 350lbs and I'm currently 270 (with a little up and down ).

Edit: A coworker was nice enough to let me train and ride for the 2010 MS tour (in October) on her Specialized Allez. I had to buy shoes, but it was a much better investment for me than a new bike at the moment. I had been in a two month drought... I was taking free yoga lessons 6 days a week, along the heat sickness and almost passing out when I last rode in June.. the urge to make time to bike has been non-existent. Today was the first ride in quite a while, so I rode 15 in the morning and 25 in the afternoon. Here's a photo of the Mandeville Lakefront (facing lake Pontchartrain) from my evening ride.

Weight loss is about diet.
Bicycle riding is exercise that makes you feel and look good.
