Buon giorno from Texas!

Hi bike forums! I registered then lurked for a while to get the feel of the land and now I'm ready to dive in.

I'm a -year old woman; I live in a small town in Texas. I have 44 tattoos, most of them permanent memories of my fur and feather babies who are waiting for me on the other side (3 Malamutes; a big, clumsy Tennessee Walker named Sonny; 4 of my favorite pet rats; a woodpecker named Macho; a cockatiel named Chato...ok, I'm sure you're bored already so I'll stop-- you get the idea, though, right? ).

I've been a runner my whole life, competitively since I was 12. I got a cross country scholarship that put me through college (the only person in my family who got past the 8th grade, yahoo!). I've always ridden bicycles but mainly as a back up to running. Now that I'm officially not competing anymore (too much like a second job), I have re-discovered the joys of the bicycle. I am still a runner, but now I'm a hyphenated runner-cyclist.

I work in the public school system in Special Education with emotionally disturbed children from ages 4 to 18. It's a tough job with low pay but I love what I do. We don't get very many success stories in my line of work, but the ones we do get, we cherish. I make it harder on myself sometimes because I give my all to my students during the time they're with me but honestly, the day I don't give it my all is the day I know I should get out. So far it's been 20 years and I still give them everything I have.

So, in closing, I bicycle because I love it. My bikes are nowhere near top-of-the-line. I buy what I can afford and I keep them because I name them, and once you name something, you're responsible for it for the rest of its life

Oh, and one last thing: I'm a Bianchi freak. I love Bianchi. Bianchi, Bianchi, Bianchi!

The end

Hey there EeekaMouse!

Welcome to the madhouse!
(Does getting hyphenated hurt as much as getting a tattoo?)

Welcome Eeekamouse.
Seems we have 3 things in common, sort of -- tattoos, bicycles , and Special Ed.
I have two "animal related" tattoos (my wife won't let me get any more. She says what I have looks fine.
I too love my bikes.
My son (high functioning autistic - now 30 years old) spent most of his school years in Special Ed (grades 2 thru 12). Special Ed teachers are true angels.

Got pics of your bikes or tattoos?
