No doubt I'll be stopping by these forums from time to time with the sort of online dialog relevant, but likely one of the primary things I am seeking is route and public transport information initially - and we are UK based. Anyone else from the UK care to make themselves known? Of course I bet some of you have taken your bikes over here and have some tales to tell too!

But a bit about of background:-
Life-long cycle enthusiast, but never able to afford expensive kit - had two new bikes in my entire life. Still regret selling the Dawes Galaxy in my teens . It was another twelve years before I bought a new Ridgeback 501 when they were the "new thing".... still riding that frame 22 years later!

New to tandem riding, the bike we ride fits that profile. I always get to captain since my stoker is partially sighted. She is a newcomer to tandems and only really cycled in childhood. I have been surprised (and she has surprised herself even more!) with her enthusiasm.

Our bike is shown as my avatar and far as we can guess is a Ca. 90's model Santana. We managed to pick it up for a song after a personal tip off on the sale. We'll cycle strictly for leisure/touring, but I am trying to work the stoker up towards a sponsored 100k night ride next June

Cheers and welcome to Bike Forums!

There are a couple of forums you should check out: first, you're local UK forum in Regional Discussions. Another one is Tandem Forum. Looking forward to reading your posts!

Who is this General Failure anyway, and why is he reading my drive?

From Barbara & Alan, Dawes Super Galaxy Tandem riders from Merseyside who are also newbies to the bikeforum.

We had lots of fun when we used the tandem for the first time, summer of 1996, Barbara doesn't know her left, from her right.
When riding around a traffic island close to home, I said we will turn left, Barbara gives a right hand signal to the cars behind !!!

We cycled across America on our tandem (without giving hand signals) in 1997, and have made contacts with a few cyclists from USA on the bikeforum.

We have friends/neighbours who ride a 90's model Santana tandem and are very happy with theirs.
I also have a Ridgeback touring bike, which replaced my Freddie Grubb bike, built in London SE20 mid 1950's.

Ref to transporting your tandem in the UK. We use Merseyrail with the solo bikes, they will not carry tandems.
We have a car roof rack which carries the tandem lying flat, to avoid hitting overhead barriers which some car parks have to stop high vehicles entering.
