New Guy from Texas!

Hi everybody! I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself and perhaps get some advice while I'm at it. I wouldn't say I'm new to biking as my wife and I have a couple mountain bikes (Trek 3700) and we usually do 15 miles every Saturday. However, she recently told me that she wants to ditch the mountain bike and get a road bike. So, I figured with Christmas right around the corner this would be the perfect time to start researching. My LBS sells Specialized, Trek, and Gary Fisher and I was looking to get her either a 2010 Trek 1.2 WSD or a Specialized Dolce Sport. Both have similar components, but I can get the Trek for about $130 cheaper since it's a 2010. Ideally, it'd be great to go in and see which one fits her better, but since it'll be a gift, I won't be able to do that. So with that said, which one do you think is a better buy?

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Hi Dan,

I would let her pick it out as part of the gift. Let her get the bike that talks to her.
That is why I bought mine and rode it 11,000 miles the first year.

She will ride the bike more if it has a Good Fit.

League City here, where are you?

Hey 10 Wheels, I was thinking about doing that, but I thought the excitement factor might be more if on Christmas Day, she woke up and there was a brand new bike right by the tree. :-) Letting her pick it out would definitely be more practical, though... hmmm...

I'm in Rosenberg, about 5 minutes south of Sugar Land on US-59.

So now you are going have to take some pics of her and the new bike Christmas morning and post them here.
Have fun with it.

Absolutely! I'd probably need to pick up a wide angle lens because I know she'd have a huge smile on her face.

Howdy and welcome to the forums.

I would also vote for letting her pick it out. You'd lose some excitement, but likely have a better fit. Or, if you can work it, just go pick out the bike(s) and do something else for Christmas; it'll be easier shopping right now.
