Jumping in

I've been an occasional to regular recreational cyclist over the last 15 years. Mostly road rides no longer than a day, some MTB on moderate trails. Interested in trying self-contained/loaded/long-distance touring, but frankly scared. Thought this (and specifically the touring group) might be a good place to get some info, encouragement, a dose of reality, and maybe a kick in the pants.

Welcome. I'm new here too. I do believe this site has a forum for touring. Hopefully you can find some good info. Good luck in your (longer/loaded) travels.
