Hello from a UK cyclist

I can see most of you members are from the US/Canada..............probably makes it more interesting for me. Im based in Hampton up the road from Hampton Court Palace, just outside London. Originally from the US actually, but my family left when I was 3, so no memories apart from later when I did summer work in Boston for a few summer breaks from Uni in Dublin where I was brought up. Been here in England (from New England to the Old England) for about 14 years now and I really like it.

Anyway, only been road cycling for about 3 months but am loving it. Typically do quite short runs for an hour (20 miles), about 3 or 4 times per week.

Welcome - I went to Hampton Court while I was visiting England last year - I would like to have a house like that. I used to live in Bristol before coming to Canada

Thanks for the welcome AndrewP. Yes a house like that would be nice, heating bill would be a bit extraordinary I guess. But the perks King Henry VIII must have had (except for the STDs) would be good fun.

Do you get out on your bike much? I have a Specialized Allez Sport.

I have a Peugeot hybrid which I mostly use for a 27 km commute 1 Apr to 1 Dec when the weather is nice. They close the path on the bridge over the St Lawrence for bikes/peds because of problems with snow clearing. I also take a few weekend recreational rides of 60-120 km. I am not an athletic rider. My plan for this winter is to put on drop bars to make things easier in headwinds. One ride I would like to take would be on the Ridgeway (the oldest road in the world) from the Thames to Avebury.

I found the aerobars scary at first......leaning over and committing yourself with fast traffic going by.....amzing how you can get used to things now..doesnt feel right unless Im on the bars now
