Dumb as a box of rocks..

Hi all

Yes, I'm dumb as a box of rocks about bicycling but I'd like to learn.

I'm a geezer, 59 years old, living in Western North Carolina, interested in a road bike.

My particular problem is my height, I'm 6'5" tall and in the dim mists of antiquity, when riding, my knees would give me trouble from being unable to extend enough.

It seems that another impending problem for me is the seemingly extreme cost involved in bike purchase, oh well, one bridge at a time.

I'm open to suggestions

Tim

There is hope.

I'm involved with a local charity and we get bikes that would fit you from time to time.

The best part is that they would be VERY affordable AND have been thoroughly checked out to be road worthy.

Check with the charities in your local area.

Welcome Tim. I'm 66. Whereabouts in western NC?
Have you been to a bike shop or two and looked at bikes? Have you asked about bigger bikes for your height? There are several manufacturers that make bikes for taller riders. If you can't find one in your area maybe a custom built bike is what you need. Custom doesn't always mean top dollar.

Stop by the Southeast Regional subforum. There are several NC folks there. Maybe they can help.

hello. Good luck on your quest to find a giant bike.

Thanks for the suggestions, at this point I suppose I mainly need to determine what size bike I need to be looking for.

I'm 6' 5" tall, an inseam of about thirty eight inches.

For what it's worth, I'm about 250 lbs.

How do I "size" a bike?
