New to the Site They wanted some info about me. Here it is

I started riding when I turned 50. I was 350 pounds; my knees and back were shot; and the only exercise I could do was ride bike. I purchased a Motiv Comfort Bike from CostCo It weighed close to 45 pounds. It had front and rear shocks and the biggest seat you have ever seen. I bought it because it had the name "comfort" in it. I purchased Joe Friel's book on Biking after 50 and began his training. (Great Book) I lost 128 pounds in nine months. By October of the following year I bought my first Carbon bike (Giant). When I had the Motiv; Friel's book suggested that you start slow (15mph) then increase a mile per hour every week or two. Well, with the Motiv I could not get that thing up to 15 mph without dropping it off a cliff. To sustain 15 mph on the motiv I had to be pumping 400 to 500 watts. Well with the Giant a new world opened. Initially I thought there was something wrong with the bike. As I began to ride I heard this low whirling noise. Turned out to simply be the wind. I now ride at least six centuries a year and at least one event ride per month.
The bike saved my life. I had become pre-diabetic; developed diabetic neuropathy in my feet. If I had continued down that road I would be on insulin today. Plus it is just darn fun to ride a bike on your own power over 30 mph. I have had the Giant up to 46 mph in Solvang. It makes me feel alive
