I ride road for conditioning - gave up running ~10 years ago. I MTB for fun and race occasionally. My son races MTB - high school XC: USA cycling XC & SD; and OTH - Over The Hump - summer weekday series. High school league is SoCal - socaldirt.org - and national governing body is NICA. He races CX in the fall - www.socalcross.org - for fun & fitness. I have a road and XC bike. I would like to get an all mtn mtb - we ride in the Sierras and could use more bike. My son has a XC full suspension for fun, training and SD racing, and a XC hardtail for XC racing. Would like to get him a used road bike for training and an all mtn bike for epic rides (Cannell Plunge). We buy 6-12 year old MTB bikes that have high end (XTR, Chris King, etc) components. As for road bikes, we would buy 20+ years old bikes in fine condition.

. Thanks. There's a new NICA high school league forming in Texas: https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/txhsmtb. The league can use "Ride Leaders" that help coach and lead training rides (hint). Just bought my son a 96 LeMond Maillot Jaune - local pickup - with Ultegra (not DuraAce) components, http://bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeS...aune&Type=bike. That's the good news. The bad news is that he is 4mph faster than last fall (OK, that sounds good), which is 2mph faster than me (OK, that's the bad news), so we can't train together. We ride at the same time, but I give him directions on how far to ride and I'll ride 80% of that distance in the same time.
