Just joined from the Woodlands, TX
I finally found my "link" again to BikeForums.net, after posting the first "Burn Your Buns" July 4th Bridgewood Farms charity bike ride, in January 2004 (it started our as "Ride from the Heart on V-Day)! Go to the charity ride thread for info on this year's ride.
I have been cycling seriously since July 9, 2002, when I joined the Woodlands Cycling Club for a Tuesday hammerfest, after my running days came to an end. I had suffered an ACL repair on Labor Day of the year I turned 40, and ten years later I was facing follow-up surgery due to my knee locking up. The Ortho doc said cycling would be a good alternative, and nine years later, the knee is better than ever. I cycle 5000-10,000 miles per year, depending on the objectives and distractions! This year will be a down year, after having my third surgery/treatment for melanoma in my left ear (the good news is that I have clean margins and no metastasis). Next year (when I turn the big 6-0) I will do the Woodlands/Memorial-Herman IronMan, for the challenge, and then revert back to cycling only!
I bike for fitness, health, pleasure and competition. I will be competing in the National Senior Games next week here in Houston. I have been the Treasurer of the Woodlands Cycling Club and its Race Team for the past four years and have been active in tying to get the Woodlands designated as a Bicycle Friendly Community. I have served on the Board of BikeTexas (aka the Texas Bicycle Coalition) and have a great passion for cycling, especially promoting safe cycling and cycling access. I "retired" from the Corporate world ten years ago, changed careers (I became a Certified Financial Planner and Investment Advisor), and now have more control over my schedule. Cycling is indeed the "fountain of youth!" Just be careful out there and don't be a statistic.
