Bikeracked is online

So I'm new to this forum and hope to get a lot of use out of it.
I haven't ridden a bicycle in over twenty years but decided to pick the habit back up so I don't turn into an out of shape slob in my late 30's.

My first interest is going to be turning a full-suspension junk mountain bike into sort of a Frankensteinish strictly road bike....on a budget.

I know, I know but my back is about as reliable and trustworthy as a career politician.Plus I like tearing machinery apart and making it "better".:innocent:

So,I think I'll go and look for the best place to get some advice.

Hi and welcome to the forums. The more upright bike isn't a bad start really, my husband bought me a specialized Sirrus which I rode for years and just recently got a real road bike. The main issue will be the rear suspension...really kills your efficiency and adds a ton of weight. Your best bet may be to find something used on Craigslist that needs some work. Hubby picked up another Sirrus for our nephew on CL for $60 because it wouldn't shift properly, new derailleur hanger and chain later and it works perfectly. Check out parktool.com for all the info you will even need on bike repair.

Thanks Chopp.Yeah I know it'll make for a less than efficient road bike but I'm not necessarily trying to break any speed records. At least not yet but we'll see how that goes.

The suspension helps a lot with my crashed up spine but I'm just not a mountain bike type of guy.

parktool.com -- Gotcha,thanks.
