James [Gunner5053]

Hi everybody, My name is James and I am 59 years old. I live in Burry Port, Carmarthenshire, Wales. Presently I am riding a Dawes Galaxy 1995 model. I bought the bike new at County Cycles, Llanelli. Today I strongly believe my bike riding has kept me healthy over these past 16 years. I depend solely on riding and walking to get myself around. I almost never use public transport and I actually gave up driving [PSV-HGV-CAR] from the first day of owning my Dawes. I really do love riding and walking.

I was looking to replace my Dawes with either a Thorn EXXP or a Koga Miyata World Traveller. I did consider a replacement Dawes, either the Super or the Ultra model, but I realised it would have been cheaper to merely upgrade my Galaxy 95. However I soon realised I wanted a real change. So out with the old and in with the new as they say.

I receive a lot of information on bike holidays from Darren Alff, Bicycle Touring Pro. And within the past week I received an article from him regarding a Mr Henrik V. Risager and the Long Haul Trucker [LHT]. I am so taken by Mr Risager's account of the LHT that I have decided to visit a LHT stockist in Canton, Cardiff. I am also interested in the Big Dummy. Now oddly enough, my wife Vanessa would love to own a Bike Friday and I found a stockist in Bath. Since retirement is just around the corner for me and riding is our way of life, purchasing a Big Dummy and a Bike Friday would be ideal for us. So if Vanessa gets too tired, I could fold her bike up and stick both my wife and her bike on the back of the Big Dummy. Sorted as they say.

I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to each and everyone of you who have taken bike riding to far flung places. Without your stories and indeed reading about your wonderful adventures I don't know what I would be doing in retirement. So thanks to all and safe riding. James and Vanessa.

Many thanks for dropping me a welcome line. I am a bit overwhelmed at the moment by the sheer size of this forum. I still don't know how to use everything properly. It's been a real pleasure receiving a message of welcome from the great Lone Star State.
