Hello from little ole Clarkesville Georgia.
About three months ago I got my old mountain bike out of the garage and started riding on a paved bike path near my home. I felt better within a few weeks and lost a little weight, so I decided to keep riding. I bought a Haro Amos a month ago and have really upped my mileage. I rode 65 miles total this last week. I have so far lost 29 pounds and feel much better. I am a paramedic who responds to several calls a month in Tallulah Gorge and because of my renewed fitness program I can go in and out of the gorge without near the physical fatigue as before. I actually don't dread those calls now, but look forward to them. Although my eating habits are better than before and I use my elliptical every day I credit bike riding with most of my weight loss and improved stamina. I ride first thing every morning. My longest ride has been sixteen miles so far. I have not been to the bike path in a while. I have been riding on the two lane rodes near my home. I like the Haro, but will probably buy a true road bike next spring. I like this forum and read it about every day. I'm one of those people who can't get enough info when I really get into something. This forum has plenty of good info. I'm glad to be aboard.

There's a paved path near Clarksville?
Congrats on the weight loss. Keep it up.
If you want to meet some locals, stop by the Southeast Regional subforum. Lots of GA folks here.
