Greetings from NYC
Hello all. Living in Manhattan, dealing with biking in the city
Currently i have an '04 Specialized HardRock Sport (stock) and a '92 Cannondale R600 w/105's all around. Sadly, the 'dale is about 2cm too big and in the near future i shall be shopping for a new road bike.
I started getting into biking more this past year (in addition to better eating helped me lose ~30lbs, yippie skippie!, only 20 more to go...), and was rather proud of myself for completing the 30mi option on the MS NYC bike ride this year. Next year my goal is to complete the century, hence the desire for a road bike that actually fits.
After lurking on the boards for the past few weeks i figured it would be in my best interest to actually join up and support the community, so here i am.

Greetings from someone who did the MS tour as well. There are a few bike clubs in the city who organize rides all the time. Good luck , and enjoy!

yeah, you gotta get a bike that fits if you're going to be putting in a lot of time riding. i assume if you live in harlem you ride in the park a lot? you're also in a good location to head up and over the GW bridge and into NJ. there is some great riding around there.

Word up Ubie.
How long is your stem on the 'Dale? If it's any more than 110mm, I'd try 20mm less.
I ride long top tube frames with short stems from time to time and don't mind them.
My favorite stem to top tube ratio is 13/57 though. I find I don't mind any combination which sums to around 70 cm.
cheers

It's not so much the toptube length and stem, it's the standover height. I'm looking into something with a compact geometry. I've got a short little inseam (28.5") and ape-long arms, but thanks for the advice.
