Hello Cyclist!
This is my introduction. I am a 60 year old man living in the Toledo, OH area - 35 miles south of Detroit, MI - USA. I had a standard bike until last year when I went into a side ditch to avoid a car resulting in 29 stitches required to close the gash in my leg.
I looked for a better ride and found velomobiles. Unfortunately, they cost about US$10,000 and are mostly made in Europe. I want to make them here in the US - but I recognize ours in NOT a "bike friendly" culture. People in the US want speed, power and usually fear sweat. They will spend US$20,000 for a motor cycle but believe US$1,000 is too much money for a bicycle.
I want to change our US culture to make it more bike friendly. I want bike paths built next to roads used by automobiles. I want to show US citizens that bike riding is fun and healthy. I want to sell US citizens on velomobiles (with an electric boost motor) as the best "short trip" means of transportation in ANY weather conditions. I want our country to use less oil and believe that the growth of electric automobile sales, advances in battery technology, smart phone motor control, and the wide spread installation of charging stations will help my efforts.
