Sparkles in the road are not nice....
Hi. I am a 62 year old daily commuter from Tacoma Washington. I commute 5.2 miles one way to work every day rain or shine. Last year I did not miss one day bicycle commuting. This year I have missed 2 days, 1 for snow and one I had to bring a package to work that would not fit on the bike.
In 1999 I was working at becomming a insulin dependent diabetic. I knew I needed to exercise. I thought about what I had enjoyed in the past and decided to start bicycle commuting. I also changed my diet limiting complex carbs. My blood sugar went down so fast I had to stop meds before I had a chance to see my doctor. I now take no diabetic meds and my blood sugar is normal. I bicycle about 2,200 miles commuting and 2,400 miles on club rides each year.
I ride a Cannondale T2000 that was 3 years old last month. It now has 12,000 miles on it. I also ride a Specialized FSR Induro Comp when the weather is real bad. It has disk brakes. I have a Specialized cross bike for a backup. Put about 5,000 miles on it before getting the Cannondale.
I gave myself the STP, Seattle to Portland ride for my 60th birthday and have ridden it each year since. This next year I plan to go on to North Bend Oregon from Portland after the STP for a high school reunion. I will ride back also. About 850 miles when I get home.
Hope to find bicyclists with information on adding additional batteries to expensive HID lights. Replacement batteries are almost the cost of the lights.

Hi P A Lux!
Have you looked at the Cat Eye HL-EL 500 Power Opticube Headlight?
Its good for thirty hours on 4 AA batteries steady. I plan on getting one or two
soon. Welcome to the forums.

Congrats, dood!
For the last few years, the medical community has interacted with those of us in the health and fitness field and advocated exercise for diabetics so that diabetics can reduce or eliminate the need for insulin. You're like the poster child of what they're talking about.
Again, I salute you! Welcome to the forums!
