Finally, a post from a long-time lurker
Hi Forum!
I feel a bit funny about finally introducing myself here - I've visited the site for years and have learned so much from you guys just by reading the threads. So, first, thank you!
About me: I'm interested in tour cycling mostly, though I am a commuter. I'm about to come to a very interesting point in my bike riding life: the acquisition of a second bike! I'm planning on making a cross-country tour this summer with a friend. I've done some short solo tours in the past, including a leg of the Tour d'Afrique, but for this ride I'm planning on taking things up a notch, by fitting out a purpose-built touring bike (currently shopping for the '80s Japanese touring bikes for their durability, price, style points). My dream bike would naturally be some kind of Rivendell.
The bike I've been using as a commuter and light touring vehicle so far is kind of Frankenstein Lemond - a Lemond frame, nice Masi fork and pretty much all the other parts from a Bianchi Volpe, which was harvested for parts after a chainstay mysteriously snapped.
In other life, I love to run, I write about music and travel for a living and have been lucky to do some bike touring as a part of my work as an author for Lonely Planet.
It's great to be on the board finally with a post - now I'll try to overwhelm you with a million of them, posted in the wrong thread, and violating all the rules of the forum (har, har... kidding).
Nice to be here!
