Hello from SoCal - ie

I have recently switched from mnt biking to road bike riding and am currently training for my first century ride. I found this forum very helpful and appreciate all the great advise. I have a Marin road bike and Trek 4900 mnt bike.

Does anyone have an opinion on training miles per week / per ride. My longest ride so far has been 71 miles. Over the last three weeks I have been riding 150 miles + per week. I am wondering if I need to start riding 100 miles a ride in order to be prepared for race day. Also, what is the suggested miles per week when training for long races?

Thanks.

Hi Loominator,

Welcome to Bike Forums.

If you can ride 75 miles you will be Ok on the century.

Rest the day before the ride.

Racing and riding are not the same thing.

Join a local club if you want to race.

Thanks for the info.

What type of training do you recommend to finish at a good pace? I have heard that you should ride a mix of hills and long rides. At times I find myself loosing momentum after 60 miles.
