Another old timer in the fold

Hello from Northern Indiana; I just joined this forum after having found it during a search for parts and advice. I was looking for some info on changing an inner chainring on a Shimano 105 crankset, and found a perfect thread here which answered more questions than I could possibly have thought of. As a result, I think I have a good solution.

I was a track racer back in the 50's - very amateur, I might add - but quit when I went off to college. Kids and career kept me busy for the next 5 decades, but when I retired some years ago, I received a wonderful surprise. My granddaughters bought a nice Trek for me with an admonition that "Here's a bike - you have a year to get into shape, because next year you're going to ride the Hilly Hundred with us!" And I've been chasing the kids and grandkids up and down hills since. Next year I hope to take my great grandson along. My weight has dropped, I've eliminated the cholesterol meds, and cut down my blood pressure. And I feel better than I have for as long as I can remember. The retirement gift wasn't just a bike - it was a whole new lifestyle.

Bikes and riding have changed radically - we had sew-ups and rat traps and down-tube shifters; helmets (which were padded leather strips) were optional; and cycle computers consisted of a pencil and a 3x5 card.

Anyway, I'm delighted that I've found you folks, and I'm sure that if I have any questions in the future, I'll find the answers here. Perhaps someday I might be able to contribute something as well.
Keep on biking!

The Tour de Cure looks like fun! I'll put that one on the calendar for sure. Sounds like a good cause as well. Thanks for the heads up.
