Old timer needs help in choosing the right bicycle
I need help in finding the right bike for me. I don't want to spend more than $300.
I"m looking for comfort and not speed. The stores in my area are: Sports Authority and Macys. Also some smaller bike shops. So, I don't need 26 sppeds thats for sure. I realize a good bike salesman should know what would be best for me, but, I just might not find one. How are the "collapsable" bikes? they look easy enough to car transport, but are they comfortable and sufficiently fast enough?.... I anxiously await your learned responses!.. |
Hello grumpy,
Welcome to Bike Forums. New York has some hills. You might need 27-30 gears for the hills. What area of the state are you located? I good way to start is a used bike. I started road riding at 65 years on this $15 used bike. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...s/DW_C2212.jpg |
bike
Any bike with 700c wheels that are double walled. The wider the tire the more cushion you get at the expense of speed. Straight bars add comfort and stability. And the lower you take your seat the more upright you can sit, but nothing that makes your knee joint pass a 90 degree bend.
