Hello...

My name is Patrick Lyford. I live in Silver City, NM, with my wife, Eileen, who is the Director of the Town of Silver City Public Library. I am retired and have taken on the role of a house husband. Much more fun than working!

I have done several short touring trips through the years and two solo, cross country trips, the most recent being 2010, when I returned to my hometown of Glens Falls, NY, for my 45th high school reunion.

About two weeks ago, I purchased a Cruzbike Silvio (www.cruzbike.com) and am in the process of building this recumbent. My other two bikes, a 1987 Cannondale T600 touring bike and a 1984 Vitus road bike, will be used to supply components for the Silvio. Depending on what type of riding I'm doing, I will switch between road components and touring components. Makes the Silvio a versatile bike. In addition to using these components, I am also going to purchase The Extrawheel bike trailer (www.extrawheel.com) to use with the Silvio for my road and touring bicycling. For shorter, lighter weight trips, I can use the road components. Longer trips, the touring components. Once built up, I will be spending the next part of my life learning how to ride a recumbent with FWD and a movable bottom bracket...!!

I also have a Trek (Dahon) 8spd folding bike that I use for riding short trips around town. Kids love it. Adults stare. In 2015, I am planning on riding a 10,000 mile ride around the U.S. and Canada using www.warmshowers.org and www.pubquest.com

While touring in 2010, I discovered that the Mom & Pop restaurants had been devoured by the corporate food boxes and was disgusted with the food options. So, with pubquest.com, I can seek out brewpubs/microbreweries that should be an indicator there is possibly decent food nearby and at the pub. Got my fingers crossed. The warmshowers.org is a great bicycling related source for lodging with people who live where you're cycling...and a source of a place to stay, possibly food, and some info on the surrounding area and what a good route might be to your next warmshowers host.

Silver City, NM, is on the Southern Tier route of the Adventure Cycling Association. If you're in the area, touring, please contact me. Happy trails....
