Bikes: Colnago Super (Campy/Cinelli), 70s vintage. Recent Ultegra-rigged Kestrel Evoke. Gary Fisher Superfly 100 and hard-tail Superfly. Older Marin mtb. And a 1968 Schwinn Continental I just can't manage to drop. Also a Scattante CFR w/Ultegra triple.

Greetings From Smith Valley, NV

I'm about an hour southeast of Carson City.

I started riding seriously in the 70s on a Colnago Super with full Campy/Cinelli gear. More recently got a Kestrel Evoke with Ultegra components and a Scattante CFR with an Ultegra triple as sort of a touring ride. Off road, a heavy older Marin for light downhill and Gary Fisher Superfly and Superfly 100 for trails.

I'm old, fat, and in lousy shape but trying to get back in modest riding condition. I hope to eventually ride another century (last one completed in 1979!).

Thanks for your welcomes! The most senior cyclist I know was someone I met through The Adventurers' Club, Los Angeles: Chet "The Jet" Kyle. He did a lot of work on the streamlined bikes that set world human powered speed records. As I recall, GM hired him to design the wheels for their Sunraycer, which won the trans-Australia solar car race. Must be well into his 80s. Quite a guy.

Thanks!

The Kestrel is an amazing bike. I rode it down Hwy 338 toward Bridgeport, CA yesterday. Went over the very mild Sweetwater Summit and back.

Because I'm an old, fat bastid, I am running an Interlock Racing Designs 11-34 cassette, with a Shimano XT mountain bike derailleur pushing the chain around. It looks a little absurd but yesterday I needed the 39:34 gear a couple times. If I lose 50 lbs, I could probably run the original 12-25 cassette over most gentle stuff. The Scattante bike with the Ultegra triple could then serve as my hill climber.
