New and Ambitious!

Hello bicycle enthusiasts,

I'm a 23 year old woman living in Wichita, KS. I've lived either in Wichita (since I was 18) or nearby small town Newton all my life. Which is, in a way, why I'm here. I don't hate the place I live, but I long to see the world outside of it. Like most people, I do my traveling in spurts, and like most working or middle class people, I don't do it nearly as often, as long, or as far as I would like. I am ready to move away from my small corner of the world, but I don't know where I want to end up; there's too many places I haven't seen or haven't seen enough of to make such a big decision!

Not too long ago, I got this idea in my head that I could probably do a lot of exploring on an indefinite bike tour, if I live cheaply and find work along the way. I now have my heart set on it, and hope to leave next Spring.

This may sound like even more of a crazy, hare-brained idea when you learn that I have not spent much time on a bicycle (at least since my middle-school years). In fact, I'm somewhat of a sedentary person, as I sit in an office all day and don't do a whole lot of physical activity outside of walking the dog. I do have a bicycle, a pink-ish Raleigh Capri 410, and pretty much no idea how to maintain or repair it. I'm not even sure if it will make an acceptable touring bike. Obviously, the next year of preparation is going to be a journey in and of itself.
I look forward to learning from this community, and maybe, if I'm very lucky, I'll even meet some of you someday in my travels!
