Hello from Binghamton, NY

Hi. I was fortunate to find this great site and have read some really great posts. I just turned 58 and am returning to biking after a 40+ year absence. I got the "bug" about two months ago after riding my brother in law's ancient Raleigh Hybrid. It felt good to be back on a bike, after all those years.

For the past two months, I have been reading everything I can on biking, especially for people over 50 (seems to be a lot of people, like me, that want to get back to what they loved to do when they were young - riding bikes!). I have been trying out a great deal of bikes, including the dept. store bikes from places like Walmart and Target. I then considered a single speed, like the Schwinn Madison, and tried several bikes at our local bike shop. I am not yet ready to spend $800 for a bike. For better or worse, I plan to buy a Diamondback Edgewood Hybrid bike from our local Dick's Sporting Goods. Not the best choice probably, but it seems like a fairly well made bike and would cost me less than $300. I am hoping it turns out to be an OK choice and will give me a chance to see if biking is for me.

I look forward to visiting these forums daily!

[QUOTE=rrobinson;14283431] I got the "bug" about two months ago after riding my brother in law's ancient Raleigh Hybrid. It felt good to be back on a bike, after all those years.

Welcome to the Forums. I've been back riding for 3yrs and really enjoy it. Just turned 59. I happen to have three Raleigh Sprites, a 75,76&86. I bought a Giant Cypress Hybrid ($450) for my everyday bike. I am presently working on a 1980 Raleigh Super Record road bike. My wife and I travel with our Jeep and a small travel trailer and take along our folding Schwinn Tangos.

Once you get the bug one bike won't be enough
