Hello from Seattle

Hi all,

I just wanted to introduce myself and say that I've been reading some posts and you all seem very helpful, knowledgeable and funny. I biked a little in my teenage years on a road bike (group rides of 30-40 miles a couple times a month). I haven't ridden at all since my junior year of high school though, except for a mountain bike I bought in Shanghai which promptly got stolen. I moved back to Seattle a few years ago and I should have bought a bike right away, but I couldn't afford it, and didn't really have the bug again yet. That's all changed though, and I'm the proud owner of a new bike.

On May 18th I got a 2011 Fuji Roubaix 2.0, with Tiagra components, carbon fork, and clip pedals (straps for street shoes). https://www.performancebike.com/bikes...551_1094395_-1

So far I've put in 85 miles, gradually increasing my mileage and taking days off because of weather or when my body tells me to. My longest rides have been three of about 15 miles. Planning to ride a lot more as much as I can Seattle is a great place to ride, and most motorists are more used to cyclists than in many other places.

One question so someone has something to say: Do you usually start your ride from your house? Or do you think its worth it to drive somewhere to start your ride for a good route?

Thanks for reading and hello!

Hello Nick.

Welcome to Bike Forums.

Depends on where you live, the roads and traffic, but I like to ride from my house.

Welcome aboard!
I usually just ride from my house,
but I commute with my bike most
of the time

I lived in the Seattle area for many years and biked the Burke Gilman trail to work every day. Mostly just biked from home and didn't use the car for transport. I miss that trail!

Thanks all. Hi sued, yeah the trail is great, I rode it once already, from 145th to 65th and then cut across to Greenlake, but the hills are brutal and no bike lane.
