Hi all. SGRT San Gabriel River Trail rider in Southern California

I am 61, married with 4 kids and 4 grandkids. I am a Scoutmaster of a Boy Scout Troop.

I have been commuting to work by bike since 1985 along the SGRT. I started out slowly, riding several times during the summer months at 40 miles round trip. I finally bought my first road bike, a vintage Bianchi, from a bike-commuting co-worker in 2003. My commute time was shorted by a good ten minutes (14 mph average). I was commuting 3 days a week then. In 2005 I bought a brand new Specialized Sequoia road bike with Shimano 105 components. Cut my commute time a little shorter (15 mph average). In 2007 I bought my current bike, Trek madone 5.2 with Shimano Ultregra components and Dura-Ace rear derailleur. Cut my commute time a little shorter (16 mph average) at 45 miles round trip and 4 days a week. Added a triple crank 53-39-30, 11 x 28 cassette and new Mavic Ksyrium wheels.

I have been out of work since July 2011; I am still riding but no more commuting.
I ride Glendora Mountain Road, GMR, twice a week to keep in shape and once a week I ride to the beach and back, over 60 miles. I hope to see Mr. Beanz and Gina one of these days on GMR.

You can't write up a post like that and not post pictures of that Madone! Do you still have the old bikes or do you get rid of them when you get a new one? And welcome to Bike Forums!

This is the madone during a bike race several years ago. Pictured before the wheels were replaced with the Mavic's. I kept my old bikes and gave my son the Specialized.
Thanks all for the nice welcome to this Bike forum.

Proper Madone-porn requires Xxxtreeme closeups of the components and (am I allowed to say it here?) bottom bracket.
