newbie ready to roll

brand new member who just started biking last June. Have been bitten by the bug and now crave just getting out on the road and clocking off the miles. Have only been able to ride 1-2 times a week but just completed my first 1000 miles on a bike. Live in northwestern connecticut. Lots of hills and put my undeveloped legs to a test 3 weeks after starting to ride. Did a 75 mile tour including my first flat tire.Survived. It seemed like I had no practice and would do one long ride on the weekend. Not the best way to build up my stamina. I am a youthful 50 yr. old. I have now done 5 tours and enjoy the comraderie. Trying to learn all the tips and etiquette. One of these tours changed my life. The "Great river ride" that took place in october in Westfield Ma. was my first century {actually 108 miles} and was so beautiful and grueling at the same time. 8000 vertical feet of climbing. Uncongested country roads in the mountains of the Berkshires, pedaling along side numerous streams. Being new I needed the triple chainring and 7 hrs. to complete it but it was rewarding exercise in perserverance. I felt so alive.

Welcome to the forums Tim! You certainly have a great start! What are your plans for the winter? Are you going to brave the weather or go to a trainer indoors?

Hi Tim,

West Cornwall huh ?? You're in God's country up there....I like to sneak up your way myself a couple times a year. Usually with the wife/kids in the car....Cornwall Bridge, Kent, Lake Waramaug, White Hollow Farms corn maize, etc. I live down in Oxford though, work in Bridgeport....good job but have to keep my commuting distance realistic.
I just started lurking here in the forums....I'm 41 looking to get back into cycling more....I have ordered a 2005 Felt F65 and have been waiting since early December...I have been riding a mtn. bike w/slicks the last couple years. When I was younger I rode some century rides, The Bloomin' Metric in Southport, Down to the Sound MS bike ride, etc. More recently I have looked to cycling as a pleasant means of weight control The "Great river ride" sounds very interesting. I'd like to try it next fall. I love climbing....but it don't always love me
