First things first...I am very new to riding!!
I am currently in my late 20's and a female trying to get into the cycling world. I just purchased a Felt F65 and yes I love the bike. Just my size, considering I am short as all get out. I have been biking with a friend lately as he is really into road cycling and figured I would pick it up as a good health benefit on my part for cardio. I am really looking forward to becoming a avid cycler...I just love it.
However, I wish I could find a female riding partner, after taking a look into this forum site. I as being a female apparently it is rare to come by.
Anyways, I hope to learn a lot from y'all. I am currently looking at going clipless. Any suggestions?? I have been doing my own research online and have found that the Speedplay Zero stainless pedals are right up my alley. I have accomplished my first group ride just this past Wednesday and well, I have a lot of fears to get over, lol. It has been close to 12 years since I have been on any type of bike and lets just say, I will never go back to mountain biking, but I have found a passion for road cycling. Any advice, I would be glad to take!
Especially on how to conquer these hills in the state of South Carolina LOL!!!! I know that it will take some time to get used to and accomplish a lot of things. Thanks for having me here.

I bet those SC hills would be kinda hard to pedal! I do a good bit of walking around here on the farm, but seldom do any pedals or steps, it's all pretty much flat. Last weekend I was getting cabin fever and decided to drive up to the lake, and see if the gates at the dam were open, but none were, and the river level was wayyy down. I took a fishing rod, and walked down the steps, a longgggg string of steps, nope, two long strings of steps! After just a little while of casting I realized it was hotter'n hek down there, so began climbing the lonnnnggg mountain of steps in front of me. Before I got to the top, my legs were tired and aching, but nothing like they would be two days later (not sure why it didn't hit me day one, but the second day instead), and for several days onward, the lower calves were terribly sore. Guess I should go there more often, just to climb those steps ; )

Lol..I bet that was a beast for you to tackle, but you did it! Yeah doing the hills here and I am feeling muscles I never have before in the calves and upper thighs. The next day or two and I am already pulling out the biofreeze. I need to get back into hiking again just to get back into the swing of things again.

I've only been back into road cycling for a couple of months, though I've been riding off and on for decades. I had never tried any group rides until recently. I recommend you join the Yahoo Group Eride. Lots of Upstate SC group rides and events are posted there daily. I used Eride to get hooked up with a Monday ride and Thursday ride (both near Spartanburg). I can tell you that joining a group ride will challenge you. But, that's really the best way to improve. And, more to your needs, a great way to meet other cyclists. Both the rides I go with have women. In fact, on the Monday ride, I was the only man one week. Last night's ride had several women attend. The woman in our "C" group was faster than almost all of us. Check out Eride.

Awesome...thanks for info 1nterceptor and will definately be checking that website out. Thanks to you as well The_tool_man, nice to see someone local in the area and thanks for that info and you betcha I will be checking out that Eride for sure. Went for another ride this morning and was able to hold off around 18-19 for a long while...getting ready for more of these group rides. lol.
