Hello from the North Shore

I broke my clavical some years back, trashed my Nishiki Continental road bike, and have been out of cycling for far too long. My friends have taken it up with some fevor, and so i started to investigate and was more than a little shocked to learn the the mountains of North Vancouver, BC, Canada (about 45 seconds by bike from my driveway and I'm in the trails) are world famous amongst mountain bikers. After much research and tireless searching i managed to "steal" a barely ridden 2003 Specialized S-Works FSR on eBay which should arrive any day. I plan to get back into riding to work (about 15 hilly miles both ways) at least once or twice a month (I used to do it a couple of times a week ... hmm, perhaps again), do some touring with my friends, and (most importantly) discover what mountain biking is all about. With a little effort on my part, this 50-year-old hopes to expose the bike to the type of terrain and riding it was designed for. Maybe I'll even lose that extra 15 pounds I've been packing.

For the road-riding trips planned, I would like a second wheel set (or possibly just a second set of tires), and i have posted a query in the commuting forum. The information I have seen on this subject appears incomplete to misleading, and any informed input would be greatly appreciated. The specific issue that seems missing concerns the reconcilliation of high pressure road type tires with low pressure-rated mountain rims.

While i realize that the email you automatically sent newbies is the same for all, it is well-written nonetheless and made me feel welcomed. Job well done.

Hmm, I just noticed that my querie vanished. I was quite sure I posted it, it was on a subject that does not appear to be covered in the archives, it had no swear words and did not trash anyone's product or anything. Can the moderator advise what might have happened and whether I should re-post? TY in advance.

Welcome to the forums madmanaenewman! Sounds like it might be quite cold in your neck of the woods! It is cold enough for my area!

As far as your post disappearing, it may have been moved to another subject area that may have better fit it. Things do get moved within these walls a lot, most times for good reason. You might try the search function to locate your thread. If for some reason you cannot find it, there may have been a SNAFU and it just didn't post.

Again, welcome to the forums.
