Hi from SoCal beachtown

I plan to start road biking for fitness, and I already XC mountain bike a lot. I know some about MTB, but diddly squat about road biking, so I will appreciate any advice and encouragement you want to throw my way. I'm trying to decide what kind of Trek road bike I want, entry level for now. I have no idea whether I'll like road biking or not. Lots of riders come to my town to road bike and mountain bike, so I know the area is conducive. Skinny tires here I come ... Thanks.

Hey Loudwaters,

Welcome to Bike Forums.

The forward lean on a road bike is most benifical for riders with back problems.

10 Wheels, that's contrary to CW ... at least for those with lumbar problems ... but hey, Galveston County has zero mountains, so I guess you have to lean way forward on your bike to simulate a descent. Just kidding.

Loudwaters: Welcome to the forum. I agree with 10 Wheels. I had lower back problems three years ago. Needed a special chair for my desk and couldn't sit in a standard office chair for more than an hour without a lot of discomfort. Now that I ride daily on my road bike my back pain is gone. Maybe it's in my mind. I think my mom was a hypochondriac so there is always that to consider.......
