Hi all from the Louisville, KY area. I'm a long time cyclist going back to the early 80's including some time in the saddle racing in college. Now I'm just an avid cyclist trying to stay in shape and use cycling as a stress reliever.
I'm finding myself at a cross roads in my cycling. Everyone around me is buying or upgrading to plastic bikes, and I continue to be drawn back to steel. I'm using this forum to help in my research and try to put the pieces of my midlife crisis together ..
I'm very active on some classic car forums and other hobbies. Have been since the interweb started, but as long as I've been into bikes, this is my first serious bike forum activity.
Cheers!
Dion

Welcome to Bike Forums.
How old is "old"? I'm coming up on 68 y/o.
I've had a steel bike, a few aluminum bikes, a ti bike, and two CF bikes. They're all good.

Ok, so maybe old is relative. . I have a 25 year old heart in a 45 year old body......
I tend the keep and ride bikes for a while. Started out with a Ross Grand Tour back in the early 80's, then bought a Bianchi in college and raced that for a while. 'upgraded' to an early Cannondale. I loved that bike, but it beat the crap out of me!
Exited cycling after my Uncle who introduced me to the sport was killed on his bike. Sold the Dale and started playing with old cars.......
Got back in a few years ago with an eBay special. I built my current Raleigh Competiton frame off of eBay parts, Ultegra, etc. the bike is a hybrid aluminum/carbon fiber frame. It's a nice ride, but I'm looking for something more classic. It is spurred on even more with my riding partner/neighbor buying a new Trek Madone 5.4. He thinks riding a steel bike is like driving a model T, so that motivates me even more.
Besides, I tend to like old things - old cars, old airplanes, and old bikes......
