New to the Forum!
Hey all, new to this thread, and actually quite new to biking.
Recently I have been running with my sister and taking exercising more seriously. In training for a half marathon on the 20th, we just completed a 13.1 mile run to prepare. I always loved running however, I wanted to prepare for the next step for myself. I want to get into long distance biking. A friend of mine said I should try to bike 2hrs a day if I can. Obviously at this point I cannot, but I know I will be able to in time. My questions is: What is a good bike to start with for long distance biking? (My budget is currently anywhere around 250-350$.) Friends have warned me about buying new bikes, as apparently they are like cars and depreciate rapidly. My concern more so, is buying something that is used and will break on me easily. Need help, thank you! -Griz |

Hey Griz,
Welcome to Bike Forums. I started on a used road bike. Rode it 1000 miles to get in some kind of bicycle shape. Then I went with a new bike. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=309076 |
Thank you for welcoming me :)
Is there any type of preferred brand, or should I get what I can for my budget? |
Visit some local bike shops and get help with bike sizing.
Post in The General Discussion Forum for more help. |
Welcome to Bike Forums! No worries on not starting out at 2 hours per day...until your butt gets used to being in the saddle, that would be rough not only on your legs, but on your butt too. You'll get there!

Hi Griz, welcome to BF, the riding will come to you easier than you think. Read up in the forums for some ideas on what bike to look for and to gather some knowledge about bikes in general and what you will be looking for in a bike. No one particular brand is the answer, there are many, many bike mfgrs out there.

@ Fastfingaz 2.5 hrs running/jogging. The most I did before hand was 5 miles, however because of the race coming up I really wanted to be able to say I did it once. About 10-11min miles, so now I am going to work on lowering that.

O K Griz thats a plan!! right now don't go for distance go for time ! I think that if you take half hour off your time you've done well!!now if you start doing a1:45 or better then you have beaten me!!!! go for it.......
