Hello Avi, glad that you chose to join us here at BF, make your self at home here. Many of us are working on our fitness by using our bikes. It is the most enjoyable to do so, IMHO. What type(s) of cycling are you interested in participating in?

Bill: at this point, I am interested in purchasing a road bike and want to concentrate on some of the bike trails around the Hudson Valley area in NY. I have a colleague of mine who is into fitness as well and the plan is to start with low miles and work our way up the ladder where we can do 50-60 miles of weekend biking on bike trails.
I posted a question here on bike recommendations and it looks like I am looking at an $800 purchase for a good road bike. Scares me a bit but I can do it if its the only bike I will ever buy.

Hi Avi.
I grew up between Newburgh and New Paltz long ago when dinosaurs roamed the earth. In the 1960s I had a business partner who was a shrink on the student health service at Vassar, in the days when it was a women's school. I still have family in the area and get back home several times a year.
My bike cost exactly the same as your budget and it does everything you hope to do. That is 60 mile rides but it also has mount points in the back for a rack. I use this bike for road rides and for grocery shopping, post office trips and all sorts of sundry rides around town. Unless you become infatuated and obsessive about bikes, your budget will handle all such use just fine.
