Hello,
I started riding as an adult in 2010 as a means of getting some exercise, after spending my adult life in sedentary pursuits. Over the last few years I have expanded from simply using a bicycle as a piece of exercise equipment to making use of the tool for most of my transportation needs.
Unlike many of the posters on this forum, I am a slow cyclist (rarely exceeding 12mph as an average speed), but I do put in a decent number of miles, averaging between 2500 and 3000 miles per year. Recently, I rediscovered the appeal of old lugged steel frame bicycles. I currently own a nearly pristine Fuji Grand SE from 1981, and have a 1982 Fuji Supreme that I am rebuilding with a mix of modern 8 speed components.

Howdy PlanoFuji,
Welcome to Bike Forums.
Most of us are slow compared to the fast riders that post and brag about speed.
Keep the fun going.

Hi Plano, welcome to BF, your speed is right down most riders here alley. Not all are racers or fast trainers, mainly bike enthusiast that ride because we can and we like it. Your bikes sound beautiful, you should post in the Classic and Vintage Forum, with some pictures for us to enjoy there. Best of luck with your riding.

Actually, there are some people that ride as fast as they claim. More of us don't get anywhere close to a 20mph average. My own usual average (according to my bike computer) is usually about 13 mph, up from 12 mph a year ago. My normal cruising pace is 14-16, depending on road and wind conditions. I pass about half the other riders on the trail and get passed by the other half.

Thanks everyone!
I will post pics of the two Fuji's as soon as I get them put back together. The Grand SE is in the process of having its bearings repacked along with a general cleaning, while the Supreme has the frame out to be repainted.
Yeh, speed is not really my concern, if I need/want to get someplace fast I will use my car. Since I don't like driving, I will take the tradeoff and get where I need/want to go a little more slowly!
I will say, that I am quite pleased with my progress since I started riding in June 2010. During those first few months, I was hard pressed to do more than a couple of miles per day--and that made me exhausted! Now I have completed one metric century, though my preferred daily distance is in the range of 15-20 miles. though days some days it is only a 6 mile round trip to the grocery store. Even with such relatively short rides, I am on pace to have a cumulative distance of 10,000 miles around the end of this year!

Your mileage record are impressive, well done, sir, well done. Many of us are either recovering form health problems or returning to riding after long lay-offs and declining health and cycling has given us a way to exercise without pain and enjoy what we are doing. Best of luck with the restorations/rebuilds of the bikes, they should be beautiful, make sure you take pictures as you work on them and post the "in progress" record on the Classic and Vintage Forum, they will be appreciated there.

If we were that worried about speed, I'm sure we wouldn't all still be pedalling away.
